Note: For all races that are combined, awards will be given separately to each age group.
Age is determined by age of runner on 12-31-22. Any boy or girl in grades 9-12 is eligible to run in the Championship Race. There is no seed time. Choice of race is an individual preference that should depend on the best choice for a successful race. Runners must run in the Championship Race to qualify for the National Finals in San Diego.

Age Group Races

10 & Under boys and girls, 11 & 12 boys and girls will run 3000 meters. 13 & 14 boys and girls will run 5000 meters. All runners will compete in the age group that corresponds with the age he or she will be on December 31, 2022. Although girls and boys run together, medals will be awarded separately on the victory stand.

Open Race and Masters Race

The Open race is for any runner eighteen years old and over. The Masters race is open to any runner forty years old and over. The age you are on the day of the race governs participation. We will combine both age groups in one race.

Race Selection

There is no minimum qualifying time. Every high school runner of eligible grade is invited to the Champs Sports Cross Country Championship. Each individual should choose the race best suited to his/her eligibility. Each runner will receive a participant TShirt.

National Qualifiers

The top ten (10) finishers in each of the seeded races will qualify for the Champs Sports Nationals held in San Diego, CA on December 10, 2022.

Runners may pick up their race packets and Champs Sports Cross Country TShirt from noon - 5 pm on Friday at the Chris Hertel Stage at the McAlpine Course. Packets and TShirts will be available Saturday starting at 7 am at the course. Runners are reminded to leave enough time prior to their race to pick up the packet and get to the starting line.

The course is 5000 meters and consists of grass and dirt paths. Spikes are permitted. School uniforms are not allowed. Course is open until dark on Thursday Nov. 24 and Friday Nov. 25. The course is closed for warm-ups on Saturday.

Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, and U.S. citizens in Overseas Military Installations.
The state where a runner resides determines in which regional meet he/she must participate. Runners must participate in the region to which their state has been assigned. Boarding school students must compete in the region of their school location. Non U.S. citizens who attend high school in the U.S. and who meet the age requirement may compete. Home-schooled students may compete in the region of their residence during the school year.

Medals will be awarded to the top 36 finishers in each race at the Chris Hertel Stage following each race. - Note that medals will be distributed after each race is declared official. In the youth races, plaques will also be awarded to the top 3 teams/clubs (genders will be scored and awarded separately). In order for the teams/clubs to be scored correctly, the team/club name must be identical (capitalization, numbers, spacing).

National Qualifiers

The top 10 finishers in the Boys Championship Race and the Girls Championship Race will qualify for the National Championships on December 10 in San Diego, CA.
